Peter Valentovič is considered one of Slovakia’s most accomplished and acclaimed conductors. He began his musical journey as an award-winning concert pianist before turning to conducting. He completed his conducting studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. During his studies in Vienna, he was awarded the prestigious Viktor Bunzl Scholarship for outstanding artistic talent.
Valentovič gained early experience as a répétiteur at major opera houses including the Opéra Bastille and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, as well as the Vienna State Opera. From 2018 to 2019, he served as Principal Conductor of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra in Bratislava.
Since 2020, he has held the position of Music Director at the National Opera Košice in Slovakia. He has also collaborated regularly with renowned soprano Edita Gruberová since 2013, both as a conductor and as a recital pianist.
Earlier in his career, Valentovič was Head Coach and Assistant Conductor at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl in Austria and at the Teatro Comunale di Bolzano in Italy. He was also Conductor and Chorus Master at Cape Town Opera from 2004 to 2006, and First Conductor at the Istanbul State Opera from 2006 to 2008.
He has worked with notable conductors such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the Théâtre du Châtelet in 2003 for Les Troyens, Franz Welser-Möst at the Vienna State Opera in 2011 for From the House of the Dead, and Friedrich Haideras Second Conductor at the Slovak National Opera on numerous productions.
He regularly conducts at leading opera houses and with philharmonic and symphony orchestras in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. His engagements have included performances with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Welsh National Opera Orchestra, SWR Symphonieorchester Baden-Baden, Münchner Symphoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Staatskapelle Berlin, Philharmonie Essen, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini Parma, Haydn Orchestra Bolzano, St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Opera Orchestra, Budapest Opera Orchestra, Budapest National Philharmonic, and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed extensively in Japan with the New Japan Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, and Sapporo Symphony Orchestra.
In 2019, Valentovič made his conducting debut in China, leading the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Xiamen Philharmonic, and Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra.
In Vienna, he has worked as a guest répétiteur, language coach, and musical assistant for Russian and Czech repertoire at the Vienna State Opera. In 2013, he made a successful debut at the Theater an der Wien with a gala concert featuring Edita Gruberová.
As a song accompanist, Valentovič has appeared in recital with Gruberová at major venues including the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Zurich Opera House, La Scala in Milan, and the Vienna State Opera, as well as in Passau, Baden-Baden, Frankfurt, Budapest, and Tokyo.
