Natascia Gazzana, violin
Raffaella Gazzana, piano
Duo Gazzana, violinist Natascia and pianist Raffaella, are Italian by birth, culture, and early training. They received an international musical education under world-class musicians, including Bruno Canino, Ruggiero Ricci, Yehudi Menuhin, Corrado Romano, Piero Farulli, and Pierre Amoyal. Alongside their musical studies, both pursued academic interests: Natascia in Visual Arts and Raffaella in Italian Literature at “La Sapienza” University of Rome. Their passions for art, cinema, literature, travel, and languages further enrich their artistic sensibility.
Praised for their versatility, expressive warmth, and refined stage presence, Duo Gazzana has performed to critical acclaim worldwide (such as Seoul, Hong Kong, Paris, Singapore, Stockholm, Cape Town, Berlin, Oslo, Zurich, etc.) as well as in major venues and festivals such as Musikverein Vienna, Wigmore Hall London, the Salzburg Festival, Lucerne Festival etc. They have toured extensively across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Their repertoire spans classical to contemporary music, with a particular focus on exploring uncharted musical territories while maintaining a deeply rooted connection to Italian musical identity, emphasizing ‘cantabilità’, melody, and beauty.
The sisters have collaborated with leading artists and ensembles in chamber music projects and have inspired composers, including Valentin Silvestrov, Fabio Maffei, Bruno Canino, Tõnu Kõrvits, Michael Djupstrom, and Đặng Hữu Phuc to dedicate works to them. Notable engagements include performing for King Charles III during the centenary of Sir William Walton, a gala concert for Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, and their multimedia show dedicated to filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. They were named “Ambassadors of the City of Florence” and “Guests of the Government of Japan,” and have performed in live broadcasts such as RAI Radio3 from the Quirinal Palace.
Duo Gazzana is the first Italian chamber ensemble to record for ECM Records. Their albums have received international acclaim and nominations from the International Classical Music Awards ICMA and Opus Klassik in Berlin. Their fifth ECM album is currently in preparation.
