Maria Ludwika Gabryś-Heyke is a pianist renowned for her broad musical interests and versatility in performing on modern piano, Mozartean Hammerklavier, and Romantic fortepiano. A graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (class of Prof. Teresa Manasterska), she refined her skills in Switzerland, studying for five years under Ivan Klánský in Lucerne, where she earned a soloist diploma with honors, and later specialized in pianoforte under Jesper Christensen at the prestigious Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Her extensive musical experience enables her to effortlessly navigate various styles and performance traditions. She has presented a diverse repertoire—spanning from the 18th century to contemporary premieres—at solo and chamber concerts in Japan, South Korea, China, the United States, and Europe.
Maria Gabryś-Heyke has achieved remarkable success in international competitions, winning First Prizes at the Ludwig van Beethoven International Competition in Hradec nad Moravicí (Czech Republic), the Edwin Fischer-Wettbewerb in Lucerne (Switzerland), and the Chopin Golden Ring Competition (period instruments) in Ptuj, Slovenia. She has been a multiple-time recipient of scholarships from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Fryderyk Chopin Society, and the prestigious Crescendum Est-Polonia Foundation.
She has recorded for Polish Radio and Television, as well as the Swiss radio station DRS 2. Her discography includes releases on Ars Produktion, Chopin University Press, Sarton, ForTune, and Naxos. Notably, her premiere recordings of works by Marian Sawa (2017) and Adolph Gutmann (2022) earned her two nominations for the Polish music industry’s prestigious Fryderyk Award.
As a dedicated educator, Maria Gabryś-Heyke conducts masterclasses in Poland, Switzerland (“Talentwoche”), Ukraine, and South Korea. She has served as a jury member at international piano competitions in the Czech Republic (Mariánské Láznĕ, Chopin Competition), Switzerland (RAHN Musikpreis), Ukraine (Chopin Competition), and South Korea. She is also the artistic director of the concert series “Starry Night Concerts” at the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw and “Chopin’s Piano” summer concerts at the Norwid Museum.
Currently, Maria Gabryś-Heyke is a professor and the Head of the Early Music and Harpsichord Department at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
