Konstantin Manaev is an internationally renowned cellist, nominated for the ICMA 2023 (International Classical Music Award) and the Opus Klassik Award 2022. He captivates audiences worldwide and garners critical acclaim for his performances in leading cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Moscow, Paris, Berlin, Zurich, Vienna, Milan and Tokyo.
He was born into a musical family in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and began his studies at the Special Music School at the Moscow Conservatory under Kyrill Rodin and later at the Carl Maria von Weber Hochschule für Musik in Dresden with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, and at the Academy of Music in Basel with Ivan Monighetti. He has won over fifteen international competitions, including the Willkomirski Cello Competition in Poznan, VI. ADAM Cello Competition in Christchurch and Young Concert Artists European Audition in Leipzig.
As a soloist, Manaev has performed with prestigious orchestras at concert halls across Europe, including the Berliner Philharmonie, Tonhalle Zurich, Philharmonie Cologne, Gasteig Munich, Konzerthaus Berlin, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
In 2022, he premiered the double concerto “Garden of Animals“ by Gordon Hamilton with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. In November 2023, he performed Andreas Romberg’s newly discovered double concerto from 1792 at the Berliner Philharmonie with violinist Julia Smirnova and the Hauptstadt- Sinfonieorchester.
For several years, Manaev has enjoyed a close friendship and collaboration with the renowned SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet, performing together across Europe at prestigious festivals like the Stradivari Festival in Cremona and the Bach Festival at the Alte Oper Frankfurt. More joint concerts are planned for 2024, including at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Bachtage in Münster.
In 2022, Konstantin Manaev released two new albums “The Songs of Our Neighbours,” and „Love Stories,“ – ARS Produktion, Germany.
In 2023, Manaev founded and has since been the artistic director of the Romberg Festival at Castel Harkotten von Korff in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, while also leading the chamber music series “Fürstenwalder Musikzyklus” in Brandenburg.
